  • Application of Artificial Neural Network in Disease Prognosis Research

Abstract: Diseases prognosis is often influenced by multiple factors, and some intricate non-linear relationships exist among those factors. Artificial neural network (ANN), an artificial intelligence model, simulates the work mode of biological neurons and has a b capability to analyze multi-factor non-linear relationships. In recent years, ANN is increasingly applied in clinical medical fields, especially for the prediction of disease prognosis. This article focuses on the basic principles of ANN and its application in disease prognosis research.

  • Pay attention to the clinical value and significance of S9 segment of liver

Couinaud first proposed the naming of S9 segment of liver in 1994, and Liu Yunyi further promoted this naming in his work “Applied Anatomy of Hepatectomy and Liver Transplantation” in 2016. However, it has not been widely recognized and supported in the field of liver surgery for a long time. In recent years, due to the promotion and gradual maturity of endoscopic technology, there has been a more detailed understanding and demand for anatomy of liver and bile duct. Therefore, this article further explores the clinical value and significance of S9 segment of liver.

  • THE INDOCYANINE GREEN ANGIOGRAPHY AND AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION WITH MACULAR HEMORRHAGE

PURPOSE:To search for the occult choroidal neovascularization(CNV)of age-related macular degeneration (AMD)with macular hemorrhage using indocyanine green angiography(ICGA). METHODS:FFA and ICGA were performed in a series of 22 cases(24 eyes)of AMD with macular hemorrhage, and the findings of both angiograms were compared each other. RESULTS :ICGA was found to be superior than FFA in evaluating the occult CNV of AMD with hemorrhage owing to the following outstanding findings in this series,i.e,in judging the presence, position, number and range of the occult CNV. CONCLUSION:ICGA is an important technique in diagnosing the subretinal occult CNV in AMD with macular hemorrhage, and useful in selecting therapeutic measures including photocoagulation and surgical treatment. • The effects of intervention with Tanakan on anterior ocular segment in diabetic retinopathy after retinal photocoagulation

Purpose To investigate the effects of intervention with Tanakan on anterior ocular segment in diabetic retinopathy (DR) after retinal photocoagulation. Methods Prospective random controlled study was performed on 72 patients (72 eyes) with ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM),by obtaining and quantitatively analyzing the changes of anterior ocular segment including anterior chamber, anterior chamber angle, ciliary body and choroids before and the 3rd day and the 7th day after retinal photocoagulation. Results Three days after photocoagulation, significant elev ated IOP and narrowed chamber angle were observed in control group and 4 eyes (1 1.11%) in Tanakan group (Plt;0.01). Choroidal detachment in 32 eyes (88.89%) in control group and in 2 eyes (5.56%) in Tanakan group and the severity of ciliochoroidal detachment in tanakan group was significantly lower than that in control group. Conclusion Tanakan is effective to prevent the complications of anterior segment, such as ciliochoroidal detachment, elevation of IOP, narrowing of chamber angle occurring early after retinal photocoagulation and reduce the severity of ciliochoroidal detachment. (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis, 2001,17:187-189)

  • THE EFFICACY OF RETINOIC ACID IN SILICONE OIL ON EXPERIMENTAL TRACTIONAL RETINAL DETACHMENT

PURPOSE:To evaluate the ability Of retinoic acid(RA) in silicon oil(SiO)to inhibit the proliferation of injected intraocular fibroblast cells. METHODS:Thirty New Zealand white rabbits (58 eyes)were divided into three groups. In control group ,only SiO(10 eyes)or BSS(10 eyes)were injected intravitreally and 5mu;g/ml (18 eyes)or 10mu;g/ml (20 eyes)RA in SiO were injected into other lwo groups respectively. Three days after gas-compression vitrectomy, 2 times;105 fibroblasts and Sio(0.5ml)or BSS(0.5ml)were injected in all eyes sequentially. The morbidity of tractional retinal detachment (TRD) were observed by ophthalmoscope until 4 weeks. RESULTS:After 4 weeks,in control ,5mu;g/ml RA in SiO and 10mu;g/ml RA in SiO group,80. 00%,44.44%,and 30.00% eyes developed TRD respectively. Significant statistical differences were found between the control group and the two treated groups (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS:5mu;g/ml or 10mu;g/ml RA in SiO can inhibit the occurrence of TRD effectively. (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis,1997,13:174-176)

  • Intravitreal injection of C3F8 in the treatment of vitreomacular traction syndrome

ObjectiveTo evaluate the efficacy of single intravitreal injection of C3F8 in treating vitremacular traction (VMT) syndrome.MethodsA retrospective case series of 38 eyes of 36 patients affected with VMT syndrome in Department of Ophthalmology, Central Theater Command General Hospital from March 2016 to June 2017 were enrolled in this study. There were 16 males (16 eyes) and 20 females (22 eyes), with the mean age of 64.11±9.49 years and the mean courses of 151.55±127.87 days. All the patients received an intravitreal injection of 0.3 ml of 100% C3F8 within one week. The BCVA examination was performed using the international standard visual acuity chart, which was converted into logMAR visual acuity. The severity of metamorphopsia was detected using M-charts. The extent of vitreomacular adhesion (VMA), central macular thickness (CMT) and the status of ellipsoid zone (EZ) were assessed with spectral-domain OCT at baseline and each month after treatment. The average BCVA was 0.58±0.22. The mean horizontal metamorphopsia (MH) and vertical metamorphopsia (MV) were 0.34±0.30 and 0.50±0.42, respectively. The mean CMT was 415.15±89.59 μm. The mean horizontal VMA was 1168.68±400.61 μm (30 eyes with VMA≤1500 μm and 8 eyes with VMA>1500 μm). The mean vertical VMA was 976.89±295.92 μm. There were 22 eyes with integrity EZ and 16 eyes without integrity EZ, 33 eyes with crystalline lens and 5 eyes with IOL. The mean follow-up time was 10.7 months. The differences in BCVA, MH, MV, CMT, the integrity of EZ before and after treatment were analyzed. The VMT release rates were assessed. The Spearman rank correlation analysis was performed to investigate the relationship of VMT release rates with the data at baseline.ResultsVitreomacular traction release occurred in 29 of 38 eyes by the final follow-up visit, the VMT release rate was 76.3%. VMT release occurred and the average time of VMT release occurred was 2.2 weeks. VMT persisted in 7 eyes, in the rest two eyes, one eye developed a retinal detachment and another eye formed macular hole, both eyes responded to vitrectomy. At 6 months after treatment, the average logMAR BCVA was 0.43±0.23, the mean MH and MV were 0.25±0.23 and 0.24±0.23, the mean CMT was 310.61±63.10 μm. Among 16 eyes without integrity EZ before treatment, there were 9 eyes with integrity EZ at 6 months after treatment. There were 16 eyes with integrity EZ and 9 Compared with baseline, the mean BCVA at 6 months after treatment was significantly increased (F=3.779, P=0.037), but the MV (F=4.958, P =0.003) and CMT (F=13.419, P<0.001) were significantly decreased, the integrity of EZ was improved significantly (χ2=5.050, P=0.025). The VMT release correlated inversely with the extent of horizontal VMA, BCVA, and CMT at baseline (r=-0.514, -0.348, -0.429; P=0.009, 0.001, 0.038).ConclusionIntravitreal injection of C3F8 can induce a posterior vitreous detachment and release vitreomacular traction, it is an efficient and safe treatment for VMT syndrome. It can improve the visual acuity, metamorphopsia and foveal morphology in patients with VMT syndrome.
