  • Vitreous surgery for severe ocular trauma

    Objective To summarize the visual outcome of patients with severe ocular trauma treated with vitreous surgery. Methods Clinical data of 188(191 eyes) with severe ocular trauma treated with vitreous surgery in a period from November 1996 to April 1998 were analysed retrospectively. Results The study included penetrating injury in 56 eyes, foreign bodies in the posterior segment in 70 eyes, blunt injury in 41 eyes , and globe rupture in 24 eyes. Main complications included endophthalmitis in 35 eyes, choroidal bleeding in 20 eyes, retinal detachment in 60 eyes, and vitreous hemorrhage in 97 eyes. Post-opera-tively, out of 188 eyes, except for 3 of patients too young to examine, visual acuity improved in 133(70.7%), including 85(45.2%) with visal acuity 0.02-1.0, 46(24.5%) remained unchanged; and 9(4.8%) had worse vision. Among 34 with no-light-perception, 12 had light-perception or over. Conclusion A majority of severe trauma eyes can be salvaged with considerable visual recovery after adequate and timely vitreous surgery. (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis,1999,15:4-6)

  • Research progress of different types of stem cells in the application of diabetic retinopathy

    Diabetic retinopathy is a serious complication of diabetes and is the leading cause of blindness in people with diabetes. At present, there are many views on the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy, including the changes of retinal microenvironment caused by high glucose, the formation of advanced glycation end products, oxidative stress injury, inflammatory reaction and angiogenesis factor. These mechanisms produce a common pathway that leads to retinal degeneration and microvascular injury in the retina. In recent years, cell regeneration therapy plays an increasingly important role in the process of repairing diseases. Different types of stem cells have neurological and vascular protection for the retina, but the focus of the target is different. It has been reported that stem cells can regulate the retinal microenvironment and protect the retinal nerve cells by paracrine production, and can also reduce immune damage through potential immunoregulation, and can also differentiate into damaged cells by regenerative function. Combined with the above characteristics, stem cells show the potential for the repair of diabetic retinopathy, this stem cell-based regenerative therapy for clinical application provides a pre-based evident. However, in the process of stem cell transplantation, homogeneity of stem cells, cell delivery, effective homing and transplantation to damaged tissue is still a problem of cell therapy.

  • 国产染料激光机光凝治疗黄斑水肿60例

    用国产眼科染料激光机光凝治疗几种眼底病引起的黄斑水肿60例60只眼。平均追踪观察6个月,39眼(65.00%)视力有提高,其中病程3个月以内的有30只眼(76.92%).眼底荧光血管造影复查60只眼,49只眼(81.67%)的黄斑区荧光素渗漏有不同程度减轻,8只眼(13.33%)的消失。其中以分支静脉阻塞(30只眼)疗效最好,视力提高者27眼(90.00%),复查眼底荧光血管造影好转和正常者29眼(96.66%).黄斑水肿光凝治疗的效果与病程长短有关,与病种有关,与黄斑区出血范围大小有关。并介绍了国产眼科染料激光机的特点。 (中华眼底病杂志,1996,12:46-47)

  • Effects of indocyanine green angiography on electroretinogram

    Objective To icompare the effects of indocyanine green angiography(ICGA) on ganzfeld Electroretinogram(ERG). Methods ICGA was performed used the Topcon 50IA retina camera, Ganzfeld ERG was recorded by Neuropack Ⅱ evoked response recorder. The Ganzfeld ERG was recorded before and after ICGA in 20 cases (38 e yes) with different diseases , Ganzfeld ERG was recorded according to the ISCEV standard recommendations. Results ICGA did neither affect Ganzfeld ERG a-wave and b-wave latency nor amplitudes of dark adaptation, maximum response and light adaptation.(Pgt;0.05). Conclusion ICGA using the Topcon 50IA could be performed prior to the recording of the Ganzfeld ERG. (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis, 2001,17:284-285)

  • Annual result of retinopathy of prematurity screening in Shanghai area

    Objective To investigate the incidence of retinopathy of prematuri ty (ROP) in the area of Shanghai, and to provide the preliminary data for the ev aluation of present criteria for ROP screening. Methods Record s of 289 prematur e infants who had undergone ROP screening from the four NICU in Shanghai between February 2004 and January 2005 were analyzed. Screening criteria included prete rm infants or low birth weight (LBW) infants with BW of 2000g or less. The first examination starts at 4 to 6 weeks chronologic age or 32 weeks post conceptual age. Results In the 289 screened infants, 19 had developed acu te ROP. There we re 3 threshold ROP, 7 prethreshold ROP and 9 developed ROP less than prethreshol d. The incidence of ROP was 6.6%. According to the British recommended guideline s(BWle;1500 g or GAle;31 weeks), only 119 out of 289 needed screening and one ca se of stage 1 ROP was missed; the incidence of ROP was 15.1% (18/119). When lowered sc reening criteria to the American guidelines(BWle;1500g or GAle;28 weeks), t here were only 83 infants needed screening, and we missed 2 stage 1 and 1 prethreshold ROP and the incidence of ROP was 19.3% (16/83). Conclusions The i ncidence of ROP i s 6.6% according to our study. It is lower than other reports and it has somethi ng to do with our present screening guideline. Further epidemiological data are needed to modify the guideline accordingly.

  • Preliminary report of the effects of intervention with tanakan on retinal function in diabetic retinopathy after retinal photocoagulation

    Objective To investigate the early effects of intervention with tanakan on retinal function in diabetic retinopathy(DR) after laser photocoagulation. Methods Prospective random controlled study was performed on 60 Patients (60 eyes) from 23 to 69 years old with DR(phase Ⅲ~Ⅳ). The multifocal electroretinograms (MERG) were tested with VERIS Ⅳ before, the 3rd day and the 7th day after photocoagulation. Results No significant differences were found in the latencies and response densities of N1,P1 and N2 between the two groups before photocoagulation. Compared with that before photocoagulation, three days after photocoagulation the latencies in tanakan group had no significant change. The response densities of N1,P1 and N2 reduced and the changes were much smaller than that in control. Three days after photocoagulation, the response densities of P1 and N2 in the central macula 5°area were much higher and the latencies of P1 and N2 were significantly shorter than that in control group. There were no significant differences in the response densities in the 7th day and the differences in the latencies between two groups still existed. Conclusion Tanakan may be effective in preventing the retina from damage of retinal photocoagulation in some degree in DR.  (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis, 2002, 18: 208-211)
