  • Investigation on the Incidence of Urolithiasis in Infants Fed by Milk Powder Tainted with Melamine in the Middle Area of Anhui Province

Objective To investigate the incidence of urolithiasis in infants aged 0-3 years old fed by milk powder tainted with melamine in the middle area of the Anhui province, as well as its relationship to gender, age, milk powder consumption and drinking water. Methods Questionnaires were distributed to 1079 infants who were screened for urolithiasis by ultrasound examination from September 25, 2008 to October 17, 2008. Data was collected by Epidata and analyzed by SPSS 13.0 software. Results A total of 646 (59.87%) male infants and 433 (40.13%) female infants underwent ultrasound examination in Anhui Provincial Hospital. Of these, 86 infants were diagnosed with urolithiasis with an incidence of 7.97%, including 62 males (72.09%) and 24 females (27.91%). The mean age of those infants with urolithiasis was 1.85±0.77, and all of calculus was located in kidney. The relationship between the incidence of urolithiasis and gender, age, drinking water, feeding bottle sanitation, birth status, as well as the amount of milk powder intake was assessed by using the Pearson Chi-square test. Results showed that significant differences were noted in the incidence of urolithiasis among infants of different genders or with different drinking water sources (Plt;0.05). The result of multiple logistic regression analyses indicated that gender was related to the incidence of urolithiasis (Plt;0.05). The incidence of urolithiasis in female infants was only 58.7% of that in male infants (OR 0.587, 95%CI 0.359 to 0.959). Conclusion The incidence of urolithiasis in infants aged 0-3 years of old in the middle area of Anhui province is relatively high and has anatomical specificity. Further data during the follow-up of these cases should be collected.

  • The trend of muscle and tendon injuries in China from 2005 to 2019: an age-time-cohort analysis

ObjectiveTo analyze the prevalence of muscle and tendon injuries in Chinese from 2005 to 2019. MethodsUsing Joinpoint regression model and age-time-cohort model, the average annual percent change (AAPC) was used to analyze the incidence of muscle and tendon injury in Chinese from 2005 to 2019. The influence of age, period and birth cohort on the incidence of muscle and tendon injury was analyzed by sex. ResultsFrom 2005 to 2019, the incidence of muscle and tendon injury in Chinese residents increased (AAPC=2.0%, P<0.05), and the AAPC of females was higher than that of males (AAPC values were 2.1% and 1.9%, respectively, P<0.05). The results of age-time-cohort model showed that the age effect, period effect and cohort effect coefficient were statistically significant. The age effect and cohort effect coefficient fluctuated, and the period effect coefficient increased continuously. The period effect is dominant in three effects. ConclusionThe incidence of muscle and tendon injuries in Chinese residents has increased rapidly. Children aged 5 to 9, people aged 20 to 29 and elderly women aged 85 to 94 are the key groups.

  • Risk of hemorrhage in pregnant cerebral arteriovenous malformation patients: a systematic review

ObjectiveTo systematically review the risk of hemorrhage in pregnant cerebral arteriovenous malformation (CAVM) patients. MethodsThe Web of Science, PubMed, Cochrane Library, WanFang Data, VIP and CNKI databases were electronically searched to collect clinical studies related to hemorrhage in pregnant CAVM patients from inception to June, 2023. Two reviewers independently screened literature, extracted data and assessed the risk of bias of the included studies. Meta-analysis was then performed by using Stata 13.1 and R 4.0.4 software. ResultsA total of 13 studies involving 2 273 patients were included. The results of meta-analysis showed that the pooled incidence of hemorrhage in pregnant CAVM patients was 0.18 (95%CI 0.12 to 0.24). The subgroup analyses were carried out based on world regions and the study duration, with the higher pooled incidence of 0.37 (95%CI 0.05 to 0.80) in Europe and 10 to 20 years of study duration of 0.37 (95%CI 0.17 to 0.57). Conclusion Current evidence shows that the incidence of hemorrhage in pregnant CAVM patients is about 18%. Due to the limited quality and quantity of the included studies, more high quality studies are needed to verify the above conclusion.

  • Trends in migraine incidence and age-period-cohort analysis in China from 1990 to 2019

Objective To investigate the incidence trend of migraine in Chinese from 1990 to 2019 in the global burden of disease database (GBD2019) and its effect on three factors: age, period and cohort. Methods Data were obtained from GBD2019. Joinpoint software was used to analyze the changes in migraine incidence. We analyzed the age-period-cohort (APC) model of migraine in the Chinese population with Stata 17.0 software and estimated the effect of age, period, and cohort on migraine incidence. Results From 1990 to 2019, the standardized incidence of migraine in the general population, and in men and women in China showed a fluctuating upwards trend, and the average annual percentage changes were 0.23%, 0.27% and 0.21%, respectively. The APC model showed that from 1990 to 2019, the risk of migraine in China decreased with the increase of age, showed a downward trend with the increase of the period, and increased with the increase of the birth cohort, indicating that the cohort effect played a dominant role in the risk of migraine in the current period, and the risk of women in the rear of the birth cohort began to be gradually higher than that of men. Conclusion The incidence of migraine in Chinese population is on the rise from 1990 to 2019, and the younger the age, the earlier the period, and the lower the birth cohort, the greater the risk of migraine, suggesting that the prevention and treatment of migraine in women aged 10 to 54 years should be strengthened to further reduce the incidence of migraine in China.

  • Epidemiology of Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension

Objective To investigate the incidence and management of CTEPH in the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in Xijing Hospital to enrich the epidemiological data of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) in China. Methods We conducted a retrospective study to investigate the incidence and management of CTEPH in the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in Xijing Hospital from 2008 to 2012. Results The incidence of CTEPH was 5.24% . About 62.90% of venous thromboembolism/pulmonary embolism (VTE/PE) patients were unprovoked, and about 53.85% of CTEPH patients was unprovoked. About 38% of CTEPH patients had no history of VTE, and 62% of CTEPH patients had no history of acute pulmonary embolism. None of the CTEPH patients was treated by pulmonary thromboendarterctom (PTE) , and about 53.85% of patients were only given anticoagulant monotherapy. Conclusions The incidence of CTEPH is higher in our hospital than reported. This phenomenon may be related to the lack of awareness of risk factors of CTEPH and the insufficient thrombolytic and anticoagulant therapy to acute pulmonary embolism. It’s very urgent to standardize the diagnosis and management of CTEPH in pulmonologists.

  • Study on the Correlation between Pregnancy Vaginal Environment Changes and the Incidence of Fungal Vaginitis

ObjectiveTo explore whether the vaginal environment changes of pregnant women were correlated with pathogenesis of fungal vaginitis. MethodsWe selected 166 women in their early pregnancy in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Clinic between July 2011 and July 2012 as the study objects (excluding fungal vaginitis patients already confirmed). Two important indicators of changes in pH and the amount of vaginal lactobacilli were chosen to determine changes in the vaginal environment. Using prospective study method, by checking changes in the vaginal environment, the objects were divided into two groups: 96 were in the changing environment group, and 70 were in the normal environment group. Sixty seven of them had a pH value lower or equal to 4.0, and 99 higher than 4.0. Fifty-eight of them had a reduced amount of lactobacillus, and 108 had a normal amount of lactobacillus. The rate of fungal vaginitis in each group was counted. ResultsThe morbidity rate in patients whose pH value was lower than or equal to 4.0 was 17.9% (12/67), while it was 6.1% (6/99) in patients with a pH value higher than 4.0, and the difference was significant (χ2=5.804, P=0.016). The morbidity rate in patients with a reduced amount of lactobacillus was 25.9% (15/58), and it was 2.8% (3/108) in patients with normal lactobacillus, and the difference was also significant (χ2=20.800, P=0.000). The morbidity rate for patients with changing vaginal environment was 16.7% (16/96), and for those with normal environment was 2.9% (2/70), and the difference was significant (χ2=7.985, P=0.005). In those with normal lactobacillus, the reduction of pH value was not correlated with the occurrence of fungal vaginitis (χ2=0.000, P=1.000). ConclusionThe vaginal environment changes during pregnancy (pH value decrease and Lactobacillus decrease) are associated with the incidence of fungal vaginitis, and it can be prevented and treated based on this phenomenon.
